The Maguire Heritage Society brings together people with an interest in the history of the Maguires, Mag Uidhir, of Fermanagh: the family who were lords of Fir Manach and Lough Erne from the late thirteenth century until the Plantation of Ulster, and whose descendants are now found all over the world.
What we do
Our first project is the family tree. It is built from Geinealaighe Fearmanach, the genealogies of the Fermanagh families, and checked against the Annals of Ulster and other sources, with every fact linked to the passage that supports it. It is a preview for now, and is being reviewed line by line.
Alongside the tree we publish short biographies of the chiefs of the name and other notable Maguires, and news of our work. In time we plan to link Y-DNA results to the lines of the tree, so that living Maguires can see where the genetic evidence fits the written record.
Where we are
The Society is at an early stage and is not yet a formally constituted organisation. For now it is run informally, and the website is maintained by Conor Maguire.
Get involved
If you have a Maguire line of your own, a family story, or a correction to the tree, we would be glad to hear from you. Please get in touch.
