Maguire Heritage

Privacy Policy

Last updated 26 September 2026.

This notice explains what personal information the Maguire Heritage Society collects through maguireheritage.ie, why, and what your rights are.

Who we are

The Maguire Heritage Society is not yet a formally constituted organisation. The website is operated by Conor Maguire, who is responsible for your information (the ‘data controller’). You can contact him at conor@daenis.com.

What we collect

When you contact us. The contact form asks for your name, your email address, optionally where your Maguire line comes from, and your message. We keep what you send in the website’s database and receive it by email, and we use it only to reply to you and, if you ask us to, to look into your family’s connection to the tree. Our basis for this is your consent, given by sending the message, and our legitimate interest in answering enquiries. We delete messages when we no longer need them, and at the latest two years after our last contact with you.

When you report a problem with the family tree. The report form asks what is wrong and for your description, and optionally your name and email address. Reports are kept in the website's database, we receive a notice by email, and they are read only by the Society's editors: they are never published. We use your email address only to reply about your report, and delete it at the latest two years after the report. To stop abuse we keep, for 30 days, an irreversible fingerprint of your internet address (never the address itself) to limit how many reports can be sent. The form's check that you are not a robot runs in your browser and on our own server; no outside service is involved.

Visits to the site. We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which we run on our own server. It does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track you across other websites; it tells us only things like which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from.

Cookies. Browsing the site sets no tracking or advertising cookies. The contact form sets one strictly necessary security cookie to protect against forged submissions, and the site’s editors receive a login cookie when they sign in.

Who else sees it

No one. We do not sell or share your information. The website and its database are hosted by Hetzner Online on servers in the European Union, and email is handled by Google, which processes messages on our behalf. The site’s fonts are served from our own server, so reading the site sends nothing to third parties.

The family tree

The family tree and biographies concern historical people, drawn from published sources. We never publish information about living people. If you believe the tree includes a living person, or wrongly connects your family, please tell us and we will correct it.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or stop using it. To do so, email conor@daenis.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).

Changes

If we change how we use personal information, for example when memberships or the shop are introduced, we will update this notice and the date above.
